Jolly Rancher

The Jolly Rancher Candy Company was founded by Bill and Dorothy Harmsen in 1949. The company was established in Golden, Colorado. Bill and Dorothy called the company Jolly Rancher because they wanted to suggest a hospitable western company. The company originally produced ice cream, chocolate, and hard candy. They began to concentrate solely on the hard candy after it began to gain popularity. The Hermsens sold their company to Beatrice Foods. The company was later purchased from Beatrice Foods by Leaf. Leaf was then acquired by Hershey Foods Corporation in 1996. Jolly Rancher produces hard candies, fruit chews, lollipops, fruit chew lollipops, gummies, and jelly beans.
