Intellectual Freedom Statement

                                           

Carsonville Public Library supports the principle of open access to information and ideas, regardless of the medium in which they exist. Carsonville Public Library feels that democracy can only exist if individuals have access to the information necessary to form opinions and make decisions on issues affecting their lives. The library feels that access to this information is the right of all free citizens. Since libraries have a key role in providing access to this information, Carsonville Public Library tries to provide access to a wide range of perspectives and view points.
Along with access to information, privacy and confidentiality are also components of Intellectual Freedom.The Carsonville Public Library supports its patrons right to privacy and it keeps the records of its patrons confidential. Carsonville Public Library endorses the American Library Association's Code of Ethics, Freedom to Read Statement, Freedom to View Statement, and the Library Bill of Rights and its interpretations.
