Carson Public
Library seeks to reflect differing viewpoints within its collection. The
library does not endorse any particular beliefs or views. Carsonville
Public Library's selection of an item does not express or imply endorsements
of the viewpoint of the author. Carsonville Public Library will not mark
or identify an item to show approval or disapproval of its contents. Items
in the collection will not be sequestered except for the purpose of protecting
them from theft or damage.
Carsonville Public Library welcomes comments from the public. These comments
help the staff of Carsonville Public Library determine if the needs of
its patrons are being met. Although the opinions of the public are welcome,
Carsonville Public Library will be the only one making decisions about
what is added to or removed from the collection.
Patrons who request reconsideration of materials will be asked to put
their requests in writing by completing and signing a form entitled "Request
for Reconsideration of Library Materials." Upon receipt of the form,
the Director of Carsonville Public Library will ask the Director of Technical
Services to provide information about the criteria used to select the
material, its place in the collection and the reasons for having the material
in the collection. The Library Director will study the information that
was provided and they will respond in writing to the person who initiated
the request. The Library Director will keep the Library Board of Trustees
informed about all reconsideration requests and the decisions made about
these requests. If the person who initiated the request is not satisfied
with the decision of the Library Director, they may request a hearing
with the Library Board of Trustees. The person who initiated the request
will be notified of the time and place of the hearing. After hearing from
the person making the reconsideration request, the Board will determine
whether the request for reconsideration has been handled in accordance
with stated policies and procedures of the Carsonville Public Library
by reviewing the background information provided by the Library staff,
the position of the patron and the decision of the Director. Based on
this information the Library Board of Trustees may vote to uphold or override
the Library Director's decision.
